The quarterly inspection of an automatic sprinkler system includes important elements that help to keep the system efficient and in good working order.

Water supply gauges are inspected to confirm they are accurate, not physically damaged, and within their date of efficacy. They are also checked to be sure normal water pressure is maintained. nfpa.org

Quick opening devices for dry pipe systems are checked that they are operational. This is important so the dry pipe system will deliver water promptly in the event of a fire.

Water flow alarms are inspected to be sure they notify the alarm service in the event of water flowing in the system, either because of a fire or possible damage to the system.

Control valves are checked to be sure they are secured by a seal or lock, or electrically supervised.

The fire department connection is also inspected quarterly. This is to be sure protective caps are in place and that there are no obstructions that could delay fire fighters from attaching hoses and pumping water into the sprinkler system to fight the fire.
